La Boqería

Mercat St. Josep

Granted - this Market is as much of an insider's tip as the Empire State Building's observation deck in New York City. Nevertheless it's as much as mandatory to check it out.

Located right at the prestigious La Rambla boulevard in the historic city centre of Barcelona, it embodies everything the mediterranean market culture is loved and appreciated for. And more.

Take a few steps and you're alredy sucked in by it's magnificence. Watch out not to trip. (Ambiguity right there.) Surrounded by vast ranges of colours, exotic scents of oriental spices and fruits boasting with freshness waft your nose. The wide variety of local, fresh produce is just overwhelming. Brisk old ladys shouting from one stand to another, trying to drown out the constant buzz of this magical place.

It's always one of the sad moments of the day when you leave La Boquería. It feels like waking up out of a flamboyant dream and you imagine being dragged out, whimmering and lashing out, begging for one more bite of this intense mango. PLEASE!!1!
